CANYON HOUSE
The Canyon House is one of the Society of Architects Archipedia Collection of “100 Classic Buildings in Utah”, located at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon just south of Salt Lake City.
Embedded into a steep foothill, nearly half of the three-story residence is below grade, not only to minimize its visual impact but to establish a relationship with the land.
The design emphasizes horizontality within a dramatic mountainous environment, and is composed of three distinct elements, a Pavilion, a Parterre, and a Box, each carefully positioned to frame views and heighten awareness of the surrounding terrain.
The result is a structure that seamlessly integrates with its dramatic setting, celebrating both architecture and landscape in equal measure.
