IDAHO REFUGE

Somewhere in Idaho, above a patchwork of barley and potato fields, is a house. Hidden on 20 acres of forestland, the home is the realization of the owners’ long-time dream, to build a mountain sanctuary.

Designed to host friends and family, yet remain intimate and mostly just for two, the plan emphasizes purposeful spaces with rooms configured to showcase treasured heirloom rugs and ensure ease of maintenance.

Clad in reclaimed weathered corral board, the simple box peeks out of its forested slope, nearly invisible from below. Flat roofs and custom wood windows introduce a modern sensibility, while the interior celebrates reclaimed vintage wood floors, solid hewn stair treads, and charred wood walls to name a few, creating a soothing retreat that is deeply personal.
