This former two-bedroom condominium, overlooking Lake Shore Drive, was denuded, stripped to its studs revealing the concrete columns that reconnect today’s apartment to the building’s architectural origin.

 

Designed for empty nesters and downsizing from a larger suburban home, the space is compact, but the solution embraces openness by integrating creative space-saving solutions for maximum functionality ~ a murphy bed transforms the office into a guest room, while the kitchen island conceals a cooktop, doubling as a gathering space.

 

The homeowners were active collaborators, selecting multi-use furnishings to support flexible living. In the Primary Suite, new windows open onto a small balcony for morning coffee. The result is a modern, efficient residence that achieves simplicity through thoughtful detail.
