FAMILY LINEAGE
Originally designed by the architectural firm of Dubin + Dubin, and built by the homeowner’s grandfather, this mid-century modern jewel carried deep family significance. Our renovation sought to restore the original spirit yet inconspicuously upgrading it for contemporary living.
Oversized lift and slide doors, constructed of solid Mahogany, replaced the rear wall of the home to reveal an expansive rear lawn bordered by a wooded ravine; they blur the boundary between house and garden.
Inside, the once-compartmentalized kitchen was reimagined as a bright, open gathering space accomplished by raising the ceiling and introducing a palette of warm, natural materials including honed Statuary White marble and an island crafted out of English Brown Oak, then oiled.
The exterior work included replacing the failing fenestration with custom solid Mahogany windows and doors, rebuilding the Primary Suite’s roof deck, repairing the many integrated copper planters, and restoring the aging masonry.
The result, an elegant renewal of heritage with a hint of modern comfort.
